US - Industry Award for a research project by the Bennert Group and the Bauhaus University of Weimar

At the annual international conference "Composites + Polycon" in Tampa, Florida the professorship for wood and masonry structures of the Bauhaus University Weimar won with its article "Structural Behaviour of Hybrid Timber-Composite Beams"  the "Best Technical Paper Award for Design and Testing 2009"  by the American Composites Manufacturers Association (ACMA).

The content of this awarded paper was the presentation of an innovative bounded system of polymer concrete, fiber-reinforced plastics and wood, characterized by easy handling and a high increase of its payload, designed by the professorship for wood and masonry structures of the Bauhaus University Weimar together with the Bennert Group. So this novel powerful bounded system can be used profitable for the cost-effective reinforcement of existing bar-shaped wood constructions.

The theoretical and practical preparatory works for the presented construction system were accomplished within two developmental and research projects under the direction of Prof. Dr. Karl Rautenstrauch, Dr. Kay-Uwe Schober (Bauhaus-University Weimar) and Jörg Frobel (Bennert Group).

At this point sincere thanks are given to the Thüringer Aufbaubank (TAB) and the German Federation of Industrial Research Associations (AiF) for the sponsorship of the basic research projects.
